North Power Plant is not supported by the entire village. Contrary to the opinion of Mr. Jan Krajnik, the administrator of the village Rajkowy cited by the journalist, not all of the citizens support the plan to build a power plant in their immediate neighbourhood. Among them are more than 70 people who apply for the rights to be joined as a party to the legal proceedings for granting the building permit to the investor.
Not only international organizations, but also local Polish associations are protesting against the North Power Plant. The statement that „the green forces of Europe have conspired against the North Power Plant” is untrue. The protest is organized by the associations of local citizens such as the Eco-Kociewe, which are supported by local and international Non Governmental Organizations.
A detailed analysis of the proposals submitted by the investor to the authorities is not an example of pettifogging. Contrary to the statement of Mr. Piotr Maciołek, the manager supervising the North Power Plant construction on behalf of the Polenerga, cited by „Wprost”, the aim of the Non Governmental Organizations is not the „ecological pettifogging” but protecting the interest of all the stakeholders of the investment. This is clearly shown by the results of numerous administrative and legal proceedings, including the decision of the Wojewódzki Sąd Administracyjny (the Voivodship Administrative Court) in Gdańsk, which has definitively dispelled the doubt over the local community’s rights to participation in the proceedings of the environmental impact assessment.
The list presented above refers only to some of the distortions and half-truths mentioned in the article „Ecoterrorists turn down the light”. We hope that our response will shed some light on the situation in the Pelplin municipality.
We highly recommend the latest issue of The Wildlife Magazine which features articles on the North Power Plant, the power sector and climate protection.
