The document titled „Climate Change 2014: Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability” summarises the impact of climate change to date, describes future risks and possible measures of mitigation and adaptation to the impacts of global warming.

The IPCC’s conclusions are far from optimistic. While the painful consequences of global warming are felt around the globe, we are ‘ill-prepared for risks from a changing climate’. What’s more, as the actions that have been taken to date are in great measure no more than a response to threats caused in the past, we need active measures of mitigation and adaptation to the new threats that worming of the planet will cause in near future.

Global warming has already created unprecedented threats to food production, water supplies, human health and ecosystems on land and in the oceans around the world. Though the responsibility for climate change lies fairly with the wealthiest courtiers, the poorest suffer the heaviest blows.

The report also concludes that there are opportunities to respond to the global climate crisis. Apart from intensifying climate protection, adaptation to the already existing changes can play a key role in decreasing the present and future risks that cannot be prevented. The experts warn, however, that the risks will be difficult to manage with high levels of warming.

Published once every 6 years, the IPCC Assessment Report is a result of cooperation of hundreds of leading scientists, and is considered the most important, most comprehensive and detailed statement summarizing our understanding of the mechanics of climate changes. Next parts of the Report will be published in April and November 2014.
